Dumfries News Trophy (Sunday 17th April)
On Sunday in glorious weather, the first open competition of the year was played at the County. Competitors flocked from far and wide to enjoy the delights of the County and the condition of the course drew praise from everyone playing. With a score of 60, the pair from Linlithgow, S.Gardner and C.Hastie, were declared the winners. The best scratch was won by the Brampton pairing of S.Cowen and L.Sturrock with a fine 66. Placings beyond the winners required some deft calculations on the part of the organisers because five teams tied on 62. Eventually, decisions were made and results were as follows. Second place went to B.Fraser and G.Fraser from the Crichton on the last three holes ruling. P.Smith and S.Purvis from the County took third place on the last hole ruling. Fourth went to the Galloway pairing of G.Haining and M.Johnstone on the better inward half ruling, while fifth went to C.Edgar and B.Wilson, again on a last three hole ruling. Lastly, the sixth spot was filled by the home club pairing of J.Wakefield and S.Howat, after another last three hole ruling.
Tennent Cup Greensomes (Saturday 16th April)
The Tennent Cup Greensomes was won at the County by G.Miller and G.Johnstone with a score of 61.4. J.Moffat and R.Clark were in second place with a net 62.8. On a day of good scoring, third place went to D.Brotherston and C.Gracie on net 63.8. J.Maxwell and G.Graham came in fourth on a net 64.0 and fifth place went to C.McInnes and I.Cushen.
